Stem Cell Therapies
The human body has a miraculous innate ability to repair itself. When you cut your finger, the body somehow is able to bring all of the necessary components to facilitate the repair. This capacity to heal oneself is derived from the fact that we have multipotent stem cells, who’s role is to regenerate and repair damaged cells. Stem cell-based therapies being used in Regenerative Medicine, can now be used to promote natural healing and repair of our musculoskeletal injuries.
What are STEM CELLS?
- Multipotent cells that can differentiate into bone, cartilage and fat cells.
- Function to heal damaged cells in need of repair and provide pain reduction
Stem cells respond to signals from damaged cartilage, meniscus, ligaments and tendons, nerves and wounds in need of repair. When they are injected into the injured area, they lay down the scaffolding to support the body’s natural healing process.
Repairable Structures
- Chronic Neck Pain
- Chronic Back Pain
- Shoulder Tears
- Tennis elbow
- Golfer’s elbow
- De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
- Wrist Sprain
- Hip Osteoarthritis
- Hip Labral Tears
- Knee Pain/Meniscal/Ligament Tears
- Muscle Tears/Strains
- Ankle Sprains/Tears
- AchillesTendinosus
- Finger/Toes Sprains/Osteoarthritis
Procedures performed:
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
- Blood is drawn, then centrifuged and reinjected into the damaged area (Bio-strength 30-50 X)Bone Marrow Aspiration
- Stem cells are harvested from your Iliac bone. They are then centrifuged and get reinjected into the damaged area. (Bio-strength 300-500 x)
Stem Cell Patient Criteria:
- Has the patient failed therapy and exercise?
- Did injections of other therapeutic agents (e.g., corticosteroid or hyaluronic acid) offer no relief?
- Was surgery performed, but failed to improve the pain score?
Additionally, it is important to ascertain whether the patient is “healthy” overall. Patients who drink, smoke, use excessive drugs, have comorbidities that may be potentiated or worsen following the injection should not be candidates.
- Suffer from chronic joint pain?
- Failed therapy and exercise?
- Interventional procedures offered no relief?
- Surgery recommend or performed, but no no pain relief?
Most Major Medical Insurance Accepted for:
- Physical Examination
- Laboratories
- Radiographic Studies
***Research institutes are currently exploring medical applications in not only orthopedic injuries, but heart failure, diabetes, cancers and neurologic disorders such as ALS,(Lou Gehrig’s Disease).
Mayo Clinic and multiple university hospitals are researching the potential usage of stem cells in healing musculoskeletal injuries and systemic diseases
